ALICE ROSSI
Alice Rossi is a flexible, expressive, colorful soprano, expert in Baroque and Contemporary music repertoire.
Since 2021 she is a member of Junges Ensemble of Semperoper Dresden, where she performed Clorinda in La Cenerentola by Rossini, Adele in Fledermaus by J. Strauss and La Musica in L'Orfeo by C. Monteverdi.
At a young age she learned the rudiments of harmony, rhythm, and singing from her parents, two experienced jazz musicians. In 2000 she began her formal classical music education along with piano studies and few years later she decided to devote herself to singing.
She recieved her Bachelors of Arts and Music in 2014, and a Master in Pedagogy with Barbara Zanichelli in 2016 at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana (CSI) in Lugano at the end of which she was selected as one of the best students of the conservatory and was awarded the privilage to perform with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana (OSI) under the direction of Enrico Dindo. In 2018 she completed a Master of Advanced Studies in Contemporary Music and Performance and Interpretation with the well-known mezzo-soprano and contemporary music expert Luisa Castellani. She is presently attaining a Master in Opera at the Opernschue of the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart with Turid Karlsen.
She has attended numerous masterclasses to refine different types of repertoire with notable international artists such as Helmut Lachenmann, Mitsuko Shirai, Jennifer Larmore, Julius Drake, Katalin Karòly, Ioan Holender, Robert Holl, Elly Ameling and Helmuth Deutsch.
She made her operatic debut in 2013 playing the role of Lucia in Benjamin Britten's opera The Rape of Lucretia with musical director Arturo Tamayo at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano. In 2014 she performed Songs By Myself and Nenia: the Death of Orpheus by Harrison Birtwistle during Sir Herry’s Songs festival dedicated to the 80th birthday of the composer in Hannover, in collaboration with Das Neue Ensamble under the direction of Stefan Asbury.
Her recent performances as a contemporary music interpreter include hte partecipation to Acht Brücken Festival in Cologne at the Kölner Philarmonie, where she preformed Avanture et Nouvelles Avanture by G. Ligeti; in 2019 she interpreted Antigone in Antigone-Tribunal by Leo Dick at Staatsoper Stuttgart-Nord adn Hilda in Elegie für junge Liebenden by H. W. Henze at Whilelma Theater in Stuttgart. She has performede many world premieres of contemporary compositions, such as Il Giardino della Vita by J. M. Sanches Verdù in the role of the Angel at Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano, the cicle Songs of the Holy Forest by H. Birthwistle at NDR Hannover.
She is also a sought after performer of ancient and baroque music: she interpreted the role of Regina in the oratorio S. Giovanni Nepomuceno by A. Caldara, in collaboration with La Divina Armonia directed by Lorenzo Ghielmi at the Salzburger Bachgeselleschaft; In 2017 she took part in the opening concert of the Early Music Festival of Utrecht, at Trivoliredenburg, Grote Zaal, where she performed cantatas by Bach, Buxtehude and Lübeck; in 2018 she collaborates with the baroque Ensemble Il Gardellino under the direction of P. Van Heygen, she took part in the MAfestival in Brouges and Musica Sacra festival in Maastricht, with music by J. Mysliveček.
She succesfyllu take part to many competitions: she received 3rd prize at the Cesti Competition of Baroque Opera in Innsbruck (2015) 1s prize of Kiefer-Hablitzel gesellschaft in Bern (2016); she recieves two speical prizes “Cosmopolit music artists” and “Daniela Dessì” at Elsa Respighi competition in Verona (2017); she wins 3rd prize at the Hilde Zadek Voice Competition of Vienna (2017), and 3rd prize at Concorso S. Colombano in Piacenza for both categories Opera and Musica Sacra (2020).
